A fantastic turn out of 47 riders took part in the first round of the Lake Health Group Summer Road Series today kindly sponsored by FIKA Coffee Brewers. Unfortunately, A grade didn't complete the race due to a crash just before the wall but thankfully no-one was reported to be seriously injured. The B Grade race saw Sam Smith in multiple breakaways before breaking away himself to take the win on the same course he won at last year. The field of 14 C grade riders was down to 7 by the time they hit the wall. On one of his favourite courses, Matt Dickinson powered away on the final climb and held on for victory. In D grade, Steve Barrile took the honours over Nina Kerr and Grace Maine. Thank you to Jeremy Humber and Pete Canny for setting up and thanks to Sam Smith and the Chinese Dragon Boat crew for marshalling.

It was a typical Ballarat summers night with warm temperatures and a fairly stiff northerly wind. These conditions made for some tough racing but that didn't stop some strong riders animating the races as they pleased, making it very entertaining for onlookers. Well done to everyone who came along tonight to guts it out in the heat. Thank you to Jason Birch for setting up and down and for chief marshalling, Paul Carnes for running the juniors and Dan Braunsteins and Darren Gladman for corner marshalling.

Jeremy McInnes 2. Tim Canny 3. Josh Sek Junior A: 1. Iesha Humber 2. Darcy Williams 3. James Forsyth Junior B: 1. Cody Hutchinson 2. Jack Pearce 3. Jackson Verzeletti Superb conditions greeted riders for the first Friday night crits of the year. The pace was on early in the combined A and B grade with average speeds sitting mostly above 42kms per hour. One by one riders dropped off leaving 4 riders to fight out the final laps. With about 400m to go Simon Ellis took off and the reaction from fellow riders was too slow and too late. An impressive Ellis came through with a comfortable and well-deserved win.
In C Grade, Patrick Cashin spent quite a bit of time in a solo break away but was unable to hold off a strong chasing group of riders. In the end, it came down to a sprint for the line and it was Stu Brien that was too strong in a well-timed race to the line. The three D Grade riders had to step up to the C Grade race and they didn't disappoint. All raced very competitively with Jeremy Humber showing that he is ready to move up a grade. Thank you to Josh Cannon and Jay Bourke for marshalling and Pete Canny for setting up and marshalling. See you next Wednesday before our road race series kicks off on Saturday 11th February. Johnson Fang It was exciting racing and great numbers in all four grades and the juniors tonight. There were attacks left, right and centre, however, it was difficult for any breaks to stay away. Following the races some people mentioned that it was the best quality racing they had seen all summer. The depth and quality of cycling was great to see!
Thank you to Pete Canny for setting up, packing up and corner marshalling, Miranda Griffiths for corner marshalling and Gerard White and Matt Bowman for chief marshalling. We have another night of crits this Friday at the same time with juniors racing from 5:45pm and seniors at 6:15pm. See you all then! Results: Junior A: 1. Iesha Humber 2. James Forsyth 3. Travis O'Bree 2. Johnson Fang 3. Will Fang It was great to see a few new riders and some old timers compete in our first crit night of the year. Conditions were warm but there was a fairly stiff breeze from the south that made the racing interesting. Well done and thanks to everyone who got their membership organised to race tonight. A small percentage of the membership fee goes to the club and helps us continue to put racing on. Thank you to Josh Cannon, Andrew Howard and Sam Palanca for marshalling and Tim Canny for setting up.

A total of $340 will go towards helping the less fortunate families of Ballarat during this Christmas time. Your contribution will be greatly appreciated.
With numbers slighty down and the wind slightly up, conditions were very tough for crit racing. Ride of the night has to go to Jay Bourke for his solo break away less than 10 minutes into the race, only to stay away for the remaining 40 minutes! Thank you to Pete Canny for setting up and packing up, Tim Canny, Wayne Bourke and Doll Paton for marshalling. Due to this busy time of year we have decided not to hold crits this Friday night. Our final crit night will take place next Wednesday with presentations to follow at The Western Hotel. It will be a prize money round with intermediate sprint prizes also. We hope to see massive numbers to finish the year off in style. Tonight's Results: A Grade 1. Jay Bourke 2. Daniel Braunsteins 3. Dillon Lindsay B Grade 1. Matt Rex Freeman 2. Jason Birch 3.
